Acupuncture with light. No needles at all.
Would you like to use acupuncture, but without needles? In laser acupuncture according to Dr. Weber, we stimulate selected acupuncture points with laser light – precisely and without puncture. Like classic acupuncture, we use it as a complement to conventional medicine, at our practice in Munich's old town.

When to come to us
You would like to try acupuncture but shy away from the puncture, or you have had unpleasant experiences with needles.
If you take blood-thinning medication or are very sensitive, laser light can be an alternative to the needle.
You are looking for a gentle, complementary treatment for cycle or hormonal disorders, endometriosis or recurring pain.
Laser acupuncture can be combined with needle and ear acupuncture and with intravenous laser therapy – we coordinate this individually.
Our approach
Laser acupuncture follows the same principles as classic acupuncture. Instead of a needle, focused low-power laser light is applied to the acupuncture point. The aim is to stimulate the body's own regulatory processes via these points. At our practice we work with laser acupuncture according to Dr. Weber. Before every treatment, your symptoms are assessed from a conventional medical perspective. Prof. Dr. Schulte-Uebbing selects the points on the basis of his decades of experience in acupuncture. He embeds laser acupuncture in your overall treatment concept, for example alongside hormone therapy, infusions or intravenous laser therapy.
Laser acupuncture complements guideline-based diagnostics and treatment; it does not replace them – its effectiveness is not sufficiently proven scientifically, so we discuss openly whether it makes sense for you.
Careful and personal
A low-power laser is aimed at the selected acupuncture points one after another. The skin is not injured.
Laser light can stimulate points on the body and the ear – including places where needles are felt as unpleasant.
Laser light can irritate the eyes. For this reason you will usually wear protective goggles during the treatment.
Where needed, we combine laser acupuncture with needle or ear acupuncture and with intravenous laser therapy.
Laser acupuncture is coordinated with your hormone, infusion or pain therapy – always as a complement to your conventional medical treatment.
From research
Over more than four decades, more than 400 scientific publications have been written – on gynaecology, oncology, environmental medicine, hormones, immunology and naturopathy. This knowledge informs every consultation with your gynaecologist in Munich.

For acute severe pain, heavy bleeding or fever during pregnancy: medical on-call service 116 117, in an emergency 112. During pregnancy, with medication that causes light sensitivity, or with skin changes in the treatment area, we discuss beforehand whether laser acupuncture is an option.
In four steps
Call us on 089 299655 or book online via Doctolib. Our practice is at Residenzstraße 9, near Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz.
We take time for your history, your symptoms and previous findings, and first clarify what should be assessed from a conventional medical perspective.
Together we decide which points are treated, how often, and whether we combine laser acupuncture with other methods.
You lie comfortably while the laser is aimed at the points. As we go along, we talk about how you are doing and adjust the treatment.
Transparent from the start
Laser acupuncture is not among the services covered by statutory health insurance (GKV). It is a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). Private health insurers and Beihilfe (the state health allowance for civil servants) reimburse the costs in full, in part or not at all, depending on the plan. We will tell you before the treatment what costs to expect and discuss with you how many appointments may make sense.
What our patients say
“Wonderful doctor. I went there with my wife to accompany her because she was so terribly afraid. She says so herself too. He is very empathetic and gives you a great feeling of being in very, very good hands there. The team is lovely and …”
“Very friendly and competent team. I have been a patient for years and am very satisfied, especially with the immune infusions, particularly after past illnesses/operations.”
“I have been a patient of Prof. Dr. Schulte-Uebbing for many years and have always been treated very kindly and attentively. The staff are very friendly and the doctor is very competent. Prof. Dr. Schulte-Uebbing always takes time to treat me competently …”
Expertise, clearly explained
The background in detail – click to expand.
In laser acupuncture, acupuncture points are stimulated with laser light rather than needles. Low-power lasers are used, often called soft lasers or low-level lasers. They do not noticeably warm the tissue and do not injure the skin. The method has been used since the 1970s. It is based on the same idea as classic acupuncture: certain points along the meridians are intended to stimulate regulatory processes in the body. It is also discussed whether light of certain wavelengths influences metabolic processes in cells. The evidence for laser acupuncture is considerably thinner than for needle acupuncture. We therefore use it as a complement and explain openly what you can expect.
At our practice we work with laser acupuncture according to Dr. Weber. Together with M. Weber, Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has published several articles on laser applications in gynaecology. These include “Integrative therapy of endometriosis: laser acupuncture and intravenous laser therapy” (ZAA, Journal of Acupuncture and Auriculomedicine, 2014) and “Laser therapy as an integral part of the treatment of hormonal disorders” (9th International ISLA Congress on Medical Laser Applications, Beverungen, 2014). On the thyroid, “Acupuncture, ear acupuncture and phytotherapy for the treatment of Hashimoto's disease” (ZAA, 2015) appeared. These titles, translated here from German, reflect areas of research focus; they are not a promise for your personal treatment.
Both methods use the same points and the same principles. The needle applies a mechanical stimulus, the laser a light stimulus. Laser acupuncture works without puncture, there is no bleeding, and most patients feel hardly anything. This makes it interesting if you are wary of needles or take blood-thinning medication. Needle acupuncture, on the other hand, is better studied scientifically. For chronic lower back and knee pain, it is covered by statutory health insurance under certain conditions; laser acupuncture is not. We decide together which form suits you – sometimes a combination also makes sense.
Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has written numerous publications on acupuncture, ear acupuncture and laser acupuncture. In his practice, laser acupuncture is one building block among several. This applies, for example, to endometriosis, that is, patches of tissue similar to the uterine lining outside the uterus. It also applies to Hashimoto's, a chronic inflammation of the thyroid, and to other hormonal disorders. Here, gynaecological and hormonal assessment always comes first. Only then do we consider whether complementary methods are an option. Besides laser acupuncture, these can include, for example, intravenous laser therapy, infusions or natural hormone therapy. This creates a concept that takes your symptoms, your findings and your wishes into account.
Low-power lasers are considered well tolerated. Unlike needle acupuncture, there are no punctures, no bruises and no wound through which germs could enter. This is why laser acupuncture can also be an option for patients who take blood-thinning medication. Eye protection is important, because direct laser light can damage the retina. For this reason the beam is never pointed at the eyes, and you will usually wear protective goggles. Caution is needed with medication that makes the skin sensitive to light, with skin changes in the treatment area and during pregnancy. Please tell us about your medication and pre-existing conditions before the treatment.
Good questions. Clear answers.
Can't find your question? Give us a call – we will take the time.
Most of the time you feel little or nothing. Some patients notice slight warmth or a tingling at the point. There is no puncture and no bleeding. That is why laser acupuncture is pleasant for many women who do not like needles.
Both methods use the same points but different stimuli. Needle acupuncture is better studied scientifically. There are fewer studies for laser acupuncture, and its effectiveness is not sufficiently proven. We discuss openly whether it is a useful complement for you.
Low-power lasers do not noticeably warm the skin and do not injure it. For the eyes, however, direct laser light can be harmful. For this reason the beam is never pointed at the eyes, and you will usually wear protective goggles.
Statutory health insurance (GKV) does not cover laser acupuncture. It is a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). Private insurers and Beihilfe (the state health allowance for civil servants) reimburse costs depending on the plan. We will tell you before the treatment what costs to expect.
That depends on your concern. Like needle acupuncture, laser acupuncture is usually planned as a series of several sessions. We decide together how many appointments make sense. As we go along, we see how you are doing and adjust the plan.
Please always tell us if you are pregnant or might be. During pregnancy, special precautions apply to laser acupuncture, and certain points are not treated. We clarify in a conversation whether and how laser acupuncture is an option in your situation.
Yes, that is possible. We treat some points with needles and others with laser light – depending on what is comfortable and sensible for you. A combination with intravenous laser therapy is also possible. We set out what suits you in your treatment plan.
