Radiation-free complement. Honestly assessed.
Mammovision is an infrared examination of the breast without X-rays and without compressing the breast. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has worked scientifically on the method and published on it. We use it to complement guideline-based screening – where a mammogram is recommended, Mammovision does not replace it.

When to come to us
You would like to add a radiation-free examination to your breast screening – in addition to palpation, ultrasound and, where recommended, mammography.
You are concerned about X-rays and would like to know which radiation-free methods exist and what they can do.
You would like to have your breast monitored over time, for example after breast cancer treatment – always in addition to your aftercare plan.
You are looking for a practice that considers breast screening together with hormones, lifestyle and environmental factors.
Our approach
At our practice, Mammovision is one building block of comprehensive breast screening, never a replacement. First we talk about your history, family history, your cycle and your previous findings. Then we clarify which examinations are recommended in line with the guidelines – such as palpation, ultrasound or mammography. Mammovision can add a radiation-free thermal image to these examinations. We consider the results together with ultrasound, elastography and your hormonal situation. If anything stands out, we recommend the necessary further clarification and support you through it.
Mammovision is a complementary method and is not among the methods recommended in the guidelines for breast cancer screening; where a mammogram is recommended, Mammovision does not replace it.
Careful and personal
We discuss your history, previous findings, family history and your cycle. This lets us interpret the images correctly.
A special camera records the heat radiated by the skin over the breast. The result is an image of the temperature distribution – without X-rays and without compressing the breast.
We assess the images and compare them, if available, with earlier images and your other findings.
Where appropriate, we add a breast ultrasound and elastography. Several methods together give a more complete picture.
We explain the results to you clearly. If anything is abnormal, we recommend guideline-based clarification, such as mammography, MRI or a biopsy.

Is this right for me?
Can you feel a lump, or have you noticed skin changes, an inverted nipple or discharge? Then you need prompt clarification with ultrasound and, if appropriate, mammography – not Mammovision alone. If you have been invited to mammography screening, please keep that appointment.
In four steps
Call us on 089 299655 or book online via Doctolib. We will tell you how to prepare.
After the preliminary conversation, the infrared images of the breast are taken. If needed, we add ultrasound and elastography.
We evaluate the images and interpret them together with your other findings and your history.
We discuss the results with you and plan further preventive care. If anything is abnormal, we recommend guideline-based clarification.
Transparent from the start
Mammovision is not a service of statutory health insurance. We bill the examination as a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for doctors (GOÄ). Private health insurers and Beihilfe (the civil-servant health allowance) reimburse differently depending on the policy; if in doubt, ask beforehand. Statutory cancer screening and medically necessary examinations we bill as usual through your health insurance. We will tell you before the examination what costs will arise.
What our patients say

Expertise, clearly explained
The background in detail – click to expand.
Mammovision is a method of infrared breast diagnostics, also known as thermography or infrared radiography. Every body gives off heat as infrared radiation. A special camera makes this radiation visible and shows the temperature distribution on the skin over the breast. The examination is passive: the device emits no rays, it only measures the heat your body gives off anyway. The idea behind it: blood flow and metabolism in the tissue influence skin temperature. Unusual heat patterns can be a reason to look more closely. Thermography does not, however, show structures inside the breast the way an ultrasound or X-ray image does. We therefore see Mammovision as a complement, not a replacement.
Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breast. It is a central, scientifically well-studied method of breast cancer screening. In Germany, women in a defined age range are invited regularly to mammography screening. Mammovision is not among the methods of early detection recommended in the guidelines. Where a mammogram is recommended – in screening, for a suspicious lump or in aftercare – Mammovision does not replace it. Some women would like to avoid X-rays altogether. We take this wish seriously and talk openly about the benefits and limits of every examination. Together we find a form of preventive care that suits you and is medically responsible.
The breast changes with the cycle, during the menopause and under the influence of hormones. Its blood flow also fluctuates. This can show up in the thermal image. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has studied and published on this connection: “Infrared breast diagnostics Mammovision: influence of endocrinological factors on the measurement” (EHK, 2010). For you this means: we ask about your cycle, about hormone therapy or hormonal contraception and about your stage of life. We take these factors into account in the evaluation. This makes it easier to interpret the images and compare them over time. Our holistic perspective shows here too: hormones, breast health and preventive care belong together.
Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has worked scientifically on infrared breast diagnostics for many years. Together with R. Berz, he wrote the chapter “Mammovision (Infrared Breast Thermography) compared to X-Ray Mammography and Ultrasonography: 114 Cases Evaluated” in the specialist book “Medical Infrared Imaging, Principles and Practices” (CRC Press, 2013). Further contributions are “Mammography and integrative breast thermo-radiography” (Baden-Baden Medical Congress, 2011) and “Infrared radiography as an integrative method in breast cancer prevention and aftercare” (Medical Week Baden-Baden, 2012). The titles alone show the attitude: Mammovision is an integrative, that is complementary, method. It stands alongside mammography, not in its place.
An honest view matters. A normal thermal image does not mean that breast cancer can definitely be ruled out. Conversely, an abnormal pattern can have harmless causes, such as inflammation or hormonal influences. Thermography can neither prove nor exclude a tumour. That is why Mammovision is never used on its own at our practice. We combine it with palpation, ultrasound and elastography. If needed, we recommend a mammogram, an MRI or a biopsy. This further clarification takes place with radiologists or in a breast centre. We explain every step to you and support you until there is clarity.
Good questions. Clear answers.
Can't find your question? Give us a call – we will take the time.
No. Mammovision is a complementary, radiation-free method. Where a mammogram is recommended – for example in mammography screening or to investigate a lump – Mammovision does not replace it. It can add extra information to your screening. We are happy to discuss openly with you which examinations make sense in your situation.
For the images, you undress from the waist up. A camera records the heat radiated by the breast; the breast is not compressed, and no radiation is used. In thermography it is usual for the skin to adjust briefly to room temperature beforehand. We explain exactly how the examination works in advance.
On the day of the examination, please do not use creams, lotions or deodorant on the breast area. Exercise, hot showers or sunbathing shortly beforehand can also alter the thermal image. Please come without perfume – as at every visit to our fragrance-free practice. Bring earlier findings. You will receive precise instructions when you book your appointment.
Statutory health insurance does not cover Mammovision. We bill the examination as a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for doctors (GOÄ). Private insurers and Beihilfe reimburse depending on the policy. Statutory cancer screening and mammography screening are unaffected. We will tell you before the examination what costs will arise.
There is no fixed age limit. Whether Mammovision makes sense for you as a complement depends on your history, your stage of life and your wishes. In younger women, ultrasound is usually the focus for breast questions. In the recommended age range, mammography screening is part of the picture – Mammovision can complement it.
The examination uses no radiation. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, however, blood flow and glandular tissue in the breast change considerably. The images are then only of limited informative value. Whether an examination is still worthwhile during this time, we discuss with you case by case.
We do not set a fixed interval across the board. Whether and when a repeat makes sense depends on your findings and your screening plan. Radiation-free methods have one advantage: they can be repeated without radiation exposure and compared with earlier images.
An abnormal thermal image is not a diagnosis. It is a prompt to look more closely. We then examine the breast with ultrasound and, if appropriate, elastography. Where necessary, we recommend a mammogram, an MRI or a biopsy. We guide you through these steps and explain every result.
Mammovision can complement aftercare – in consultation with your treating oncologists. Scars and the after-effects of radiotherapy can influence the thermal image; we take this into account in the evaluation. Mammovision does not replace guideline-based aftercare with mammography and ultrasound.
