When to come to us

When mesotherapy may be an option for you

Tired, dull skin

Your skin looks dry, dull or shows fine lines. You would like fresher-looking skin – without surgery.

Thinning hair

Your hair is getting thinner or falling out more. You would like to clarify the causes and specifically support hair growth.

Recurring pain

Neck, back or joint pain accompanies you. You are looking for a complementary, local treatment alongside your current therapy.

Targeted rather than all over

You prefer a treatment that acts only where the concern is – with small amounts of active ingredients right on the spot.

Our approach

Our approach to mesotherapy

Before every mesotherapy treatment we ask about the causes. For hair loss, for example, we check hormones, the thyroid and nutrients; for pain, your history and previous findings. Only then do we put together the active ingredients individually for you. Depending on your concern, mesotherapy may use vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid or local anaesthetics, for example. Where needed, Prof. Dr. Schulte-Uebbing combines mesotherapy with acupuncture, PRP therapy or natural hormone therapy. This creates a concept that looks at your health as a whole.

An honest assessment

Mesotherapy complements guideline-based diagnostics and treatment; it does not replace them – its effectiveness is not scientifically proven for every application, so we discuss openly what you can realistically expect.

Careful and personal

What mesotherapy involves

01

Micro-injections into the skin

With very fine, short needles, small amounts of the active ingredients are placed into the middle layer of the skin – at several points in the treatment area.

02

Mesotherapy for the skin

On the face, neck or décolleté, moisture and nutrients are intended to support the skin. The aim is fresher, more even-looking skin.

03

Mesotherapy for the scalp

With thinning hair, the scalp is treated. The aim is to nourish the hair roots and support natural hair growth.

04

Mesotherapy for pain

For complaints in the neck, back or joints, treatment is given over the painful area, often with a local anaesthetic.

05

Individual composition

Which active ingredients, how many sites and at what intervals treatment is given depends on your concern and your findings.

Who mesotherapy may be suitable for

What may speak in favour

  • If you would like fresher-looking skin
  • For thinning hair, after the causes have been assessed
  • As a complement for neck, back or joint pain
  • If you prefer a locally targeted treatment

When a different approach is needed

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, with acute skin inflammation in the treatment area, clotting disorders or allergies to ingredients, mesotherapy is usually not an option. With sudden, severe hair loss, finding the cause comes first. For acute severe pain: medical on-call service 116 117, in an emergency 112.

In four steps

How mesotherapy works

  1. Book an appointment

Call us on 089 299655 or book online via Doctolib. Our practice is at Residenzstraße 9, near Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz.

  2. Conversation and examination

We take time for your concern, your history and previous findings. Where needed, we examine skin, scalp or laboratory values.

  3. Treatment plan

We discuss active ingredients, treatment area, the intervals between sessions, costs and possible side effects – and what you can realistically expect.

  4. Treatment and support

The skin is disinfected, then the micro-injections follow. Small areas of redness or wheals are possible afterwards; we discuss together how things go.

Transparent from the start

Costs and health insurance

Mesotherapy is a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). Aesthetic treatments are covered neither by statutory nor by private health insurers. For mesotherapy for pain, some private insurers reimburse part of the cost depending on the plan – please ask them beforehand. We will tell you before the treatment what costs to expect.

What mesotherapy is

Mesotherapy was developed in the 1950s by the French physician Michel Pistor. The name derives from the mesoderm, the middle germ layer from which skin, connective tissue and muscles, among others, develop. In mesotherapy, small amounts of active ingredients are placed into the skin with very fine needles, directly in the area of the complaint. Pistor summed up the principle like this: little, rarely and in the right place. The method is based on the idea that active ingredients remain longer in the skin at the site and can act there in a targeted way. Mesotherapy is widely used in France. Its effectiveness is not sufficiently proven scientifically for many applications.

Mesotherapy for skin and hair

In aesthetic medicine, mesotherapy is used to support the look of the skin and hair growth. On the face, neck and décolleté, active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins or amino acids are intended to supply the skin with moisture and nutrients. Unlike a hyaluronic acid filler treatment, mesotherapy does not fill wrinkles. With thinning hair, the scalp is treated. Hair loss in women often has causes within the body, such as hormonal changes, a thyroid disorder, iron deficiency or stress. For this reason we clarify these causes first. Depending on the findings, mesotherapy can be combined with PRP therapy or natural hormone therapy. For us, aesthetics means bringing out your natural radiance.

Mesotherapy in pain therapy

For pain in the neck, back or joints, mesotherapy is applied locally over the painful area. The mixture often contains a local anaesthetic. The method is based on the idea that small amounts of active ingredients in the skin can act on the pain process via the nerves of the area. At our practice, mesotherapy is one building block of holistic pain therapy, together with acupuncture and other naturopathic methods. Among other things, Prof. Schulte-Uebbing wrote about acupuncture, cupping and mesotherapy in the article “‘Pain therapy’ – the trouble with the lower back” (Your Health magazine, 2012; title translated from German). We assess the cause of the pain carefully beforehand.

Side effects and safety

Mesotherapy is considered well tolerated but is a treatment with needles. Small areas of redness, wheals, swelling and bruising are possible at the injection sites, usually subsiding after a short time. Infections or allergic reactions to an ingredient occur rarely. For this reason we ask beforehand about allergies, medication and pre-existing conditions and disinfect the skin carefully. After an aesthetic treatment we tell you what to watch out for, for example regarding make-up, sauna, exercise and sun. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, mesotherapy is usually not used.

Mesotherapy in the overall concept

At our practice, mesotherapy is part of naturopathy and at the same time a service in the area of aesthetics & beauty. Medical and aesthetic concerns are often connected. Thin hair or dull skin can be related to hormones, metabolism or nutrients. For this reason we look not only at the skin but at you as a whole person. Depending on your concern, we combine mesotherapy with acupuncture, PRP therapy, infusions or natural hormone therapy. This creates a concept tailored to your situation – without promises, but with an honest assessment.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Frequently asked questions about mesotherapy

Can't find your question? Give us a call – we will take the time.

Does mesotherapy hurt?

The needles are very fine and short. Most patients feel small pricks that are easy to bear. In sensitive areas, such as the scalp, it can be slightly more uncomfortable. If you are sensitive, talk to us – we discuss how we can make the treatment more comfortable for you.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on your concern. Mesotherapy is usually planned as a series of several sessions, later sometimes with top-up sessions. We decide together in the treatment plan how many appointments make sense and at what intervals.

When will I see a result?

That varies from person to person. With skin and hair, changes usually only show after several sessions, because skin and hair need time to renew themselves. We cannot promise a particular result. We discuss openly beforehand what is realistic.

Which active ingredients are used?

That depends on your concern. In mesotherapy, vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, plant-based active ingredients or local anaesthetics may be used, for example. We explain which mixture we choose for you before the treatment. Please tell us about any known allergies and intolerances.

What is the difference from hyaluronic acid or PRP?

With a hyaluronic acid filler treatment, volume is placed deliberately under the skin, for example in wrinkles. PRP therapy uses prepared blood plasma from your own blood. Mesotherapy places small amounts of various active ingredients superficially into the skin. We discuss together which method suits you.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

Mesotherapy is a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). Aesthetic treatments are not reimbursed. For mesotherapy for pain, some private insurers reimburse part of the cost depending on the plan. We will tell you before the treatment what costs to expect.

Can I have mesotherapy during pregnancy?

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, mesotherapy is usually not used. For many active ingredients, data on safety for mother and child are lacking. If you are pregnant or might be, please tell us. Together we will consider what may be an option for you during this time.

What do I need to bear in mind after the treatment?

Small areas of redness and wheals are normal and usually subside quickly. On the day of treatment you should avoid make-up on the treated areas, sauna, intensive exercise and strong sun. If an area becomes very red, warm or painful, please contact us.
