When to come to us

When you should talk to us about your defences

Frequent infections

You catch colds several times a year, infections drag on or keep coming back.

Exhaustion and fatigue

You feel permanently drained even though you sleep enough, and would like the causes looked into.

After illness or surgery

You are recovering only slowly after an infection, an operation or a demanding treatment.

After cancer treatment

You would like to support your defences as a complement – in coordination with your treating oncologists.

Our approach

Our approach to immunotherapy

The immune system works closely with the hormonal and nervous systems, metabolism and the mind. That is why we do not just look at individual infections. We start with a detailed history and targeted laboratory tests, for example blood count, micronutrients or thyroid. We first rule out serious illness or have it assessed by a specialist. Then we put together an individual plan. It can combine immune infusions, acupuncture and intravenous laser therapy – supplemented by advice on sleep, diet and stress. These methods are based on the idea of supporting and stabilising the body's own defences. The aim is for you to become more resilient again.

An honest assessment

Immune infusions, acupuncture and intravenous laser therapy are complementary methods whose effectiveness in strengthening the defences has not been scientifically proven for every use; they do not replace guideline-based diagnostics and treatment, and we discuss openly what makes sense for you.

Careful and personal

What immunotherapy includes

01

Investigating the body's defences

We discuss how often you get infections, pre-existing conditions, medication and your circumstances. Laboratory values such as blood count, vitamin D or iron show possible deficiencies.

02

Immune infusions

Individually composed infusions, for example with vitamins such as vitamin C, trace elements and amino acids. The aim is to make up for an identified need. More on the Immune infusions page.

03

Acupuncture

Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has been a member of the DÄGfA for decades and was a lecturer there. We use acupuncture as a complement, for example for exhaustion, stress and frequent infections.

04

Intravenous laser therapy

Here, laser light is guided through a fine needle directly into a vein. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has described the procedure in several specialist articles on immunology.

05

Lifestyle and daily life

Sleep, exercise, diet and stress reduction all influence your defences. We give you practical advice that fits into everyday life.

06

Support with Long Covid

We also offer complementary immunotherapies for persistent symptoms after a Covid infection. More on the Long Covid page.

From research

Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has published on this.

Over more than four decades, more than 400 scientific publications have been written – on gynaecology, oncology, environmental medicine, hormones, immunology and naturopathy. This knowledge informs every consultation with your gynaecologist in Munich.

Who immunotherapy is suitable for

What may speak in favour

  • Frequent or protracted infections without a serious cause
  • Exhaustion after illness, surgery or infection
  • Persistent symptoms after a Covid infection
  • Complementary after cancer treatment, coordinated with oncology

When a different approach is needed

With a high fever, shortness of breath or feeling seriously ill, contact the on-call medical service on 116 117, or in an emergency 112. If a congenital immune deficiency or an autoimmune disease is suspected, assessment also belongs in specialist hands. You receive oncological immunotherapy against cancer at oncology centres.

What happens in immunotherapy

  1. Book an appointment

By phone on 089 299655 or online via Doctolib. Please bring any results and a list of your medication.

  2. Conversation and examination

We take time for your history, examine you and arrange suitable laboratory values.

  3. Treatment plan

Together we decide which building blocks make sense, at what intervals they take place and what costs arise.

  4. Treatment and support

You receive infusions, acupuncture or laser therapy at the practice. We check regularly how you are doing and adjust the plan.

Transparent from the start

Costs and health insurance

Patients with statutory health insurance (GKV) and private health insurance are welcome here. Consultation and medically necessary examinations are billed through your health insurer, depending on your insurance status. Immune infusions, intravenous laser therapy and many other naturopathic services are self-pay services under the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ). Statutory health insurers cover acupuncture only for certain conditions. We will tell you before treatment what costs to expect.

The background in detail – click to expand.

How the immune system works

The immune system protects the body from pathogens and removes altered cells. It has two parts. The innate defences react immediately and non-specifically. The acquired defences learn and produce antibodies and immune cells in a targeted way. Both work closely with the hormonal and nervous systems. That is why stress, lack of sleep, hormonal changes or a lack of nutrients can affect the defences. Pollutants and fragrances are also discussed in environmental medicine as possible burdens on the immune system. A healthy immune system is balanced: it responds when necessary and settles down again. If this balance is disturbed, frequent infections, but also allergies or autoimmune diseases, can result.

When the defences should be examined more closely

A congenital immune deficiency is rare. More often, the defences are temporarily weakened – for example by stress, lack of sleep, nutrient deficiencies, chronic illness, certain medications or after cancer treatment. A closer assessment is advisable, for example, with very frequent or severe infections, infections that respond poorly to usual treatment, or unusual pathogens. In that case we also recommend a specialist immunological examination. Often, though, easily treatable factors are found: a lack of iron or vitamin D, a thyroid condition or lasting overload. That is where we start.

What we mean by immunotherapy

The term immunotherapy is used in different ways in medicine. In cancer medicine it refers to treatments that direct the immune system specifically against tumour cells. This oncological immunotherapy is carried out in oncology centres and is not the subject of this page. In allergology, specific immunotherapy means desensitisation. Our holistic immunotherapy is something different: a concept of assessment, correcting deficiencies and complementary methods intended to support the body's own defences. If you are receiving or have received cancer treatment, we coordinate every complementary measure with your treating oncologists.

Intravenous laser therapy in immunology

In intravenous laser therapy, light of a particular wavelength is guided through a thin needle directly into a vein. The procedure is based on the idea that the light stimulates blood cells and metabolic processes. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has written on this in several specialist articles, for example “Intravenous Laser Therapy as an Integrative Procedure in Immunology” (Journal of the Physicians for Naturopathy, 2014) and “From the Immunological Practice. Intravenous Laser Therapy” (Jameda expert guide, 2013). Its effectiveness has not been conclusively proven scientifically. Whether the procedure is an option for you is something we discuss openly. It is explained in detail on the Intravenous laser therapy page.

Acupuncture and your defences

Acupuncture, including ear acupuncture, has been a focus of our practice for decades. We use it as a complement, for example for stress, burnout syndrome, states of exhaustion, weak defences and frequent infections, and alongside treatment for cancer. Acupuncture is based on the idea in Traditional Chinese Medicine that the body's functions can be regulated through certain points. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has been a member of the German Medical Acupuncture Association (DÄGfA) for decades, has taught courses there as a lecturer and holds the additional qualification in acupuncture. For strengthening the defences, the effectiveness of acupuncture is not sufficiently proven scientifically. We see it as a complementary building block.

Good questions. Clear answers.

FAQs about immunotherapy

Can't find your question? Give us a call – we will take the time.

Is this immunotherapy against cancer?

No. By immunotherapy we mean here a holistic concept to support the defences, for example with frequent infections or exhaustion. Oncological immunotherapy against tumour cells is carried out in oncology centres. During or after cancer treatment, we coordinate complementary measures with your treating oncologists.

How can I tell if my immune system is weakened?

Signs can include frequent or protracted infections, slow recovery, constant tiredness or poorly healing wounds. However, these symptoms have many possible causes. That is why we first find out what lies behind them, for example a nutrient deficiency, a thyroid condition or another underlying illness.

How often do I receive infusions?

That depends on your symptoms, your laboratory values and how you feel. There is no fixed plan for everyone. We discuss with you at what intervals treatment may make sense, and we review regularly whether it should be continued.

Can I combine immunotherapy with other treatments?

In many cases, yes. What matters is that we know all your medications, dietary supplements and ongoing treatments, because some active substances do not go well together. With cancer treatment, we coordinate with your treating oncologists.

Does immunotherapy help with Long Covid?

So far there is no generally accepted therapy that removes the cause of Long Covid. Complementary immunotherapies can be one building block of support, with the aim of easing symptoms. Their effectiveness in Long Covid has not been proven scientifically. More on our Long Covid page.

Is immunotherapy possible during pregnancy?

During pregnancy we proceed with particular caution. Many complementary methods and infusions are then not an option, or only after careful consideration. For infections in pregnancy, the usual medical measures take priority. Talk to us; we will advise you individually.

What can I do myself for my defences?

Enough sleep, regular exercise in the fresh air, a varied diet with plenty of vegetables and a conscious approach to stress support the defences. Do not smoke. Vaccinations in line with the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) can offer additional protection. We discuss with you what makes sense in your situation.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

Consultation and medically necessary examinations are billed through your health insurer, depending on your insurance status. Immune infusions and intravenous laser therapy are self-pay services under the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ). We will tell you before treatment what costs to expect.
