Gentle magnetic field therapy in Munich

Gentle and external. Holistically conceived.

Magnetic field therapy is a gentle treatment method in which magnetic fields act on the body from the outside – without puncture and without medication. At our practice in Munich's old town, we use Magnetodyn for this, as a complement to conventional medicine and embedded in a holistic concept.

When to come to us

When magnetic field therapy may be of interest to you

Supporting regeneration

You would like to support your body's natural regeneration processes as a complement, for example after stressful periods or illness.

Recurring symptoms

Your back, joints or muscles keep causing you trouble, and you are looking for a gentle complement to your current treatment.

You would like it gentle

You are looking for a treatment without puncture and without medication, during which you can lie or sit relaxed.

Magnetic field or Neocontrol?

You have heard of magnetic field therapy for a weak bladder and want to know which method is intended for your concern.

Our approach

Our approach to magnetic field therapy

We begin with a conventional medical assessment. We take time for your history, examine you and check whether anything speaks against magnetic field therapy – such as a pacemaker or pregnancy. For the treatment we work with Magnetodyn. The method is based on the idea that magnetic fields can stimulate metabolic and regulatory processes in cells and tissues. The aim is to support natural regeneration processes. At our practice, magnetic field therapy is always one building block in an individual overall concept, for example alongside acupuncture, infusions or laser methods.

An honest assessment

Magnetic field therapy complements guideline-based diagnostics and treatment; it does not replace them – its effectiveness is not sufficiently proven scientifically, so we discuss openly whether it makes sense for you.

Careful and personal

What magnetic field therapy involves

01

Magnetodyn

For magnetic field therapy we work with Magnetodyn. The magnetic fields are generated electrically by coils and act on the body from the outside.

02

Gentle and without puncture

Magnetic fields pass through clothing and tissue. There is no puncture and no medication, and most of the time you feel little or nothing during the treatment.

03

How it differs from Neocontrol

Neocontrol is a separate, extracorporeal magnetic field pelvic floor therapy. A strong magnetic field tenses the pelvic floor muscles there – more under Incontinence & pelvic floor.

04

Individual planning

We decide together how often and at what intervals you are treated, and discuss the progress with you.

05

Part of your overall plan

Magnetic field therapy can be combined with acupuncture, infusions or laser methods – coordinated with your conventional medical treatment.

When a different approach is needed

With a pacemaker, defibrillator or other electronic implants, during pregnancy and with acute bleeding, magnetic field therapy is not an option. For a weak bladder, we advise you on Neocontrol on the Incontinence & pelvic floor page. For acute severe symptoms: medical on-call service 116 117, in an emergency 112.

In four steps

How magnetic field therapy works

  1. Book an appointment

Call us on 089 299655 or book online via Doctolib. Our practice is at Residenzstraße 9, near Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz.

  2. Conversation and examination

We take time for your history, your symptoms and previous findings, and check whether contraindications such as electronic implants are present.

  3. Treatment plan

Together we decide whether magnetic field therapy makes sense for you, how often you are treated and what we combine it with.

  4. Treatment and support

You lie or sit comfortably while the magnetic fields act from the outside. As we go along, we talk about how you are doing and adjust the treatment.

Transparent from the start

Costs and health insurance

Magnetic field therapy is not among the services covered by statutory health insurance (GKV). It is a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). Private health insurers and Beihilfe (the state health allowance for civil servants) reimburse the costs in part or not at all, depending on the plan. We will tell you before the treatment what costs to expect and discuss with you how many appointments may make sense.

The background in detail – click to expand.

What magnetic field therapy is

In magnetic field therapy, magnetic fields act on the body from the outside. In medicine, low-frequency, pulsed magnetic fields are usually used for this, generated electrically by coils. Unlike a permanent magnet, their strength and rhythm can be controlled. Magnetic fields pass through clothing, skin and tissue. This is why you usually do not need to undress, and there is no puncture. Magnetic field therapy is not to be confused with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): this uses a very strong magnetic field and is used for imaging, not for treatment. At our practice we work with Magnetodyn for magnetic field therapy.

The concept behind it

Magnetic field therapy is based on the idea that magnetic fields trigger tiny electric currents in cells and tissues. These are intended to stimulate metabolic and regulatory processes, for example at the cell membranes and in the circulation. The aim is to support natural regeneration processes. In naturopathy, magnetic field therapy is often used for complaints of the musculoskeletal system. There are laboratory studies on the mechanisms; the results of clinical studies are inconsistent. For most applications, the effectiveness is not sufficiently proven scientifically. We therefore use magnetic field therapy only as a complement and tell you openly what you can expect.

Magnetodyn and Neocontrol – the difference

At our practice there are two methods using magnetic fields, with different aims. Magnetic field therapy with Magnetodyn is intended to support natural regeneration processes; the fields are not so strong that muscles tense. Neocontrol, by contrast, is an extracorporeal magnetic field pelvic floor therapy for incontinence prevention and treatment. A strong, pulsed magnetic field tenses the pelvic floor muscles while you sit fully clothed. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has published the article “Stress incontinence – extracorporeal magnetic field therapy as a supportive treatment option …” (CO’MED, 2011; title translated from German) on this. We describe Neocontrol in detail on the Incontinence & pelvic floor page.

Safety and contraindications

Magnetic field therapy is considered well tolerated. It is not an option with pacemakers, implanted defibrillators and other electronic implants, such as insulin pumps. It is also not used during pregnancy or with acute bleeding. We discuss metal implants, for example artificial joints, with you beforehand. Watches, mobile phones and cards with magnetic strips should not be in the treatment area. If you feel unwell during the treatment, please tell us straight away. Please tell us all pre-existing conditions, implants and medication beforehand. If in doubt, we clarify contraindications with your treating doctors before we begin.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Frequently asked questions about magnetic field therapy

Can't find your question? Give us a call – we will take the time.

Can you feel the magnetic field?

Most of the time you feel little or nothing. Some patients notice a slight tingling or a feeling of warmth. Muscles do not tense – that is a difference from Neocontrol. If anything is uncomfortable, please tell us straight away.

Do I have to undress for the treatment?

Usually not, because magnetic fields pass through clothing. You should take off watches, mobile phones and cards with magnetic strips beforehand so that they are not in the magnetic field. Before the treatment we tell you what to look out for.

What is the difference from Neocontrol?

Neocontrol is an extracorporeal magnetic field pelvic floor therapy for a weak bladder. A strong magnetic field deliberately tenses the pelvic floor muscles. Magnetic field therapy with Magnetodyn works without muscle tension and is intended to support regeneration processes. We discuss together which method suits your concern.

Who should not be treated with magnetic fields?

Magnetic field therapy is not an option with pacemakers, implanted defibrillators and other electronic implants. It is also not used during pregnancy or with acute bleeding. We discuss metal implants beforehand. Please tell us all pre-existing conditions.

How often is treatment given?

That depends on your concern. Magnetic field therapy is usually planned as a series of several treatments. We decide together how many appointments make sense and at what intervals. As we go along, we talk about how you are doing and adjust the plan.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

Statutory health insurance (GKV) does not cover magnetic field therapy. It is a self-pay service under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). Private insurers and Beihilfe (the state health allowance for civil servants) reimburse the costs in part or not at all, depending on the plan. We will tell you before the treatment what costs to expect.

Can I combine magnetic field therapy with other methods?

Yes, that is often possible, for example with acupuncture, infusions or laser methods. At our practice, magnetic field therapy is always part of an overall concept anyway. We agree the order and intervals individually, based on your situation and your conventional medical treatment.

Is magnetic field therapy the same as an MRI?

No. Magnetic resonance imaging uses a very strong magnetic field and is used to produce images of the inside of the body. Magnetic field therapy uses much weaker, pulsed fields and is a complementary treatment, not an examination.
