When to come to us

If you would like your skin to look fresher

Fine lines and wrinkles

First fine lines around the eyes and mouth that you would like to have treated gently, using components from your own body.

Tired-looking skin

Your complexion looks dull, your skin is less plump, and skincare products alone are no longer enough for you.

Skin during the menopause

As oestrogen levels fall, the skin often becomes thinner and drier. You would like to approach this holistically.

A wish for a natural look

You are looking for a method without fillers that relies on components of your own blood.

Our approach

Our approach to PRP treatment for the skin

Healthy skin has a lot to do with the whole body. That is why we first ask about your medical history, your hormones, medications and skincare. We look at your skin and discuss what PRP can do and what it cannot. For the treatment, we obtain platelet-rich plasma from a small amount of blood and inject it into the skin with fine needles. The method is based on the idea that growth factors from the platelets stimulate skin renewal and collagen formation. The aim is a fresh, vital-looking complexion. Where appropriate, we combine PRP with other aesthetic treatments at our practice.

An honest assessment

PRP treatment for the skin is an aesthetic procedure with limited study evidence – we promise no result and discuss openly what is realistic.

We draw a small amount of blood from an arm vein into special tubes.

04

Injection into the skin

With fine needles, we inject the plasma into the skin, for example on the face, neck or décolleté.

05

Aftercare advice

Redness, slight swelling or small bruises are possible. You will receive advice on skincare, make-up, sun and exercise.

06

What may speak in favour

  • You would like to have fine lines treated gently
  • Your skin looks tired, dry or dull
  • You prefer components from your own blood

When a different approach is needed

For deep wrinkles or marked loss of volume, other methods are more likely to be suitable, such as treatment with hyaluronic acid. PRP is not suitable in cases of blood clotting disorders, inflammation in the treatment area, acute infections, active cancer, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Costs and health insurance

PRP treatment for the skin is an aesthetic service. Neither statutory health insurance (GKV) nor private health insurance usually covers such treatments. You therefore pay for them yourself; billing follows the German fee schedule for doctors (GOÄ). The costs depend on which areas are treated and how many appointments make sense. We will tell you before the treatment what costs will arise.

How skin ages

Over the years, the skin produces less collagen and fewer elastic fibres. It becomes thinner and drier and loses firmness; lines and wrinkles appear. Besides genetic disposition, sun, smoking, sleep, diet and stress play a role. In women, hormones come into it as well: as oestrogen levels fall during the menopause, the skin often changes noticeably. Prof. Schulte-Uebbing has also been studying hormonally active substances in cosmetics, perfume and fragrances for years. That is why our practice is nicotine-free and perfume-free. For us, good skincare starts with what you put on your skin every day.

The idea behind PRP in the skin

When an injury occurs, platelets release growth factors that are involved in wound healing. PRP treatment for the skin is based on the idea of using this process in a targeted way. The plasma is injected into the skin. There, the growth factors are intended to stimulate the connective tissue cells to produce more collagen and elastic fibres. The aim is a finer skin texture, more moisture and a fresh, vital-looking complexion. Because PRP is made from the body's own components, it is often described as a natural method. Whether and how much your skin changes varies from person to person and cannot be predicted beforehand.

What PRP is not

PRP is not a filler. Unlike hyaluronic acid, it does not make up for loss of volume and does not plump up deep wrinkles. Nor is it a surgical procedure: the skin is neither operated on nor tightened. PRP relies on slow remodelling processes in the skin. Possible changes can therefore be judged after weeks rather than days. If you want an immediately visible change, other methods are more likely to be suitable. If your skin is sagging, a consultation in plastic surgery may make sense. We will tell you that openly as well.

What studies say

PRP has been used in aesthetic medicine for years. The studies on it are mostly small, and the preparation methods differ greatly. The results are therefore hard to compare and, overall, inconsistent. PRP is also often combined with other methods, such as microneedling – fine needle pricks that are meant to stimulate the skin further. This makes it harder to assess the individual component. For you, this means: PRP may be an option, but we do not promise a particular result. We will advise you honestly, even if another treatment suits you better.

Side effects and precautions

Because the plasma comes from your own blood, intolerance to the material itself is rare. As with any injection, redness, swelling, a feeling of tightness and small bruises may occur. They usually subside after a few days. Please do not schedule important appointments directly after the treatment. Infections are rare; we therefore work under sterile conditions. If you are prone to cold sores, please tell us beforehand if the area around the mouth is to be treated. PRP is not suitable in cases of clotting disorders, acute skin inflammation, active cancer, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Frequently asked questions about PRP treatment for the skin

Can't find your question? Give us a call – we will take the time.

What is a “vampire lift”?

This is the colloquial name for PRP treatment of the face, because your own blood is used. It is not a lift in the surgical sense: the skin is neither operated on nor tightened. What is injected is platelet-rich plasma, prepared from a small amount of your blood. The aim is to stimulate the renewal of the skin.

When will I see a result?

That cannot be predicted. PRP relies on slow remodelling processes in the skin. Whether your complexion changes can be judged after weeks rather than days. We do not promise a particular result. If you want an immediately visible change, other methods are more likely to be suitable.

Does the treatment hurt?

Blood collection is a brief prick. You will feel the injections into the skin as many fine pricks, more noticeable in some places than in others. Whether and how we numb the skin beforehand, for example with a cream or with cold, we will discuss with you.

Can I go back to work straight afterwards?

As a rule, you can go about your daily life afterwards. However, redness, swelling or small bruises can be visible for a few days. Please do not schedule important appointments directly afterwards. You will receive advice on make-up, sun, sauna and exercise after the treatment.

How often is treatment given?

That depends on your skin and your goal. PRP is often given as a series of several treatments a few weeks apart, later with top-up sessions if appropriate. We decide together how many appointments make sense for you and adjust the plan as things progress.

Can I combine PRP with hyaluronic acid or mesotherapy?

That is possible if it suits your skin and your wishes. In our practice we offer hyaluronic acid, mesotherapy and fruit acid peel, among other things. Which treatments complement each other sensibly, and in what order, we discuss in the consultation.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

As a rule, no. PRP treatment for the skin is an aesthetic service that you pay for yourself. Billing follows the German fee schedule for doctors (GOÄ). The costs depend on the areas treated. We will tell you before the treatment what costs will arise.

Are there reasons not to have PRP treatment?

PRP is not suitable in cases of blood clotting disorders, a platelet deficiency, acute infections, inflammation in the treatment area and active cancer. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you take anticoagulant medication, please talk to us beforehand and do not stop anything on your own.
